What is the halving?
Every 210,000 blocks - about every four years - the number of new bitcoins paid to miners for each block is cut in half. It started at 50 BTC in 2009 and was 3.125 BTC after the April 2024 halving. It keeps going until roughly the year 2140, when all 21 million bitcoins exist.
Fewer new coins means less fresh supply. Past halvings were followed by big price rises, but that is history, not a promise - the price can fall too. More about halvings · Bitcoin price
