Bitcoin, explained simply
The first cryptocurrency: digital money with no bank in the middle.
Bitcoin is money that lives on a public record (the blockchain) kept by thousands of computers around the world instead of one bank. Anyone can check every payment ever made.
There will only ever be 21 million bitcoins. New ones are released slowly to the computers that secure the network (miners), and that release halves about every four years.
Its price moves a lot - it has fallen by more than half several times in its history.
